Parents
work hard to provide their children with opportunities to enhance their
futures and give them a competitive advantage. However, reality is
busy schedules, increasing demands for time, a real lack of knowledge
about options and opportunities available for Post Secondary Education,
and many available doors may simply not open.
College Admissions are
getting more competitive each year. The Director of Admissions at
Duke University told a gathering of parents in the summer of 1996 that
"Duke University could fill an entire second Freshman Class annually with
4.0 GPA's and 1600 SAT scores." High school consultants carry heavy
student loads. Much of their time is spent dealing with discipline
problems, family problems and truancy. Only a small portion of their
time is available for college counseling.
College Preparatory Services
(CPS) is designed for students not planning to attend a college
military program.
Olympic Institute can help you prepare a private, personalized and
individual College Entrance Plan for your student. The CPS helps
your student access educational opportunities through careful long-range
planning and preparation.
The CPS will assist you and
your student with the following:
Course selection and
schedules/honors and advanced placement classes
Standardized test
score monitoring
Evaluation of
progress reports and report cards
Guidance for
athletics and extracurricular activities
Encouragement,
focus, positive reinforcement and motivation
Goal setting for
educational options
The CPS prefers to begin with "rising freshmen," where we feel parents get
the best benefits of our program, but we accept student clients from all
grades in high school.
Our first consultation is during the spring of the
eighth grade. This allows us an opportunity to assess the
student's interests and to discuss the parents' goals.
This consultation is
important because your student needs to see high school in a positive
light and be comfortable with the curriculum for that first year of
high school. However, the parents need to understand the big
picture and marry the final goal (college) with their student's
changing interests, and keep the curriculum flexible enough to satisfy
the college entrance requirements.
Set your student up for
success. To do that you must begin NOW while your child
is still in middle school and definitely as your student begins the
ninth grade as a high school freshman.

The Service Academy Preparatory Services
(SAP) program is specifically designed for those who are planning to
apply to Officer Select programs. Additional emphasis is placed on
military science, leadership development and physical conditioning. This
program is based on our College
Preparatory Services (CPS) program (see below), designed to meet growing requests
and to meet the needs of both the civilian and military oriented student.
Both programs are hands on guidance and mentoring programs. The SAP
is an expansion of our very successful
CPS program.
The OILD
offers it's clients an innovative, intense, focused and hands-on guidance
and mentoring program which, over the past six years, has provided our
candidates/clients and their families with a 100% success rate.
Our program fees are
designed to be "family budget friendly." The OILD provides an
outstanding "return on investment" for America's young men and women.
After all, our mission is preparing America's Next Generation of Leaders
and Captains of Industry.
The
Olympic Institute's Academy Selection Program (ASP) typically commences in
the fifth semester of high school. Our ASP includes those seeking
congressional appointments to Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and
Merchant Marine academies as well as those candidates for college ROTC
programs and military prep schools. Due to
the extremely competitive nature of the selection process, we believe it
is critical that candidates begin the process early and be well prepared.
The OILD assists the candidate to understand the different faces and
program offerings of each federal service academy, as well as the
necessary qualifying test scores and selection criteria in order to be
assured that the designated choice specifically fits the long-term goals
and career aspirations of the candidate. By presenting ALL
Officer Select programs honestly, we in effect offer a "one stop shopping"
concept thus avoiding one-dimensional presentations. No other
individual program representative can do this. We also encourage
multiple applications to Officer Select programs.
Prior to acceptance as an OILD client, the Olympic Institute screens and
qualifies all candidates based on their grade point average, class
standing, standardized test scores, high school academic preparation and
ability to meet medical requirements. The ASP begins with the
important process of application for Summer Programs at the U.S. Naval
Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, West Point and the U.S. Air Force Academy prior to the conclusion
of the fifth semester of high school.
In addition, Pre-Candidate Questionnaires, Physical Requirements,
Standardized Testing (SAT/ACT), Congressional Nominations, preparation of
Resumes and Letters of Recommendation begin to get underway in earnest.
The OILD believes that the earlier these activities begin, the better the
chances are of being a successful applicant. The OILD provides to
all clients a sample packet of successful resumes, letters of
recommendation, personal essays and congressional nomination request
forms.
The
Olympic Institute's Hourly Counseling Service is for
candidates who need specialized assistance outside the
scope of our other counseling offerings. Contact the
Olympic Institute by e-mail for an estimate of time
required to meet your needs.
